Heard about Lancaster County being Amish Country? You heard correct! Lancaster City’s Central Market is not only the oldest continuously operated farmers market in the United States, but it is where you can purchase many Amish goods that are not commonly found elsewhere. But, just a few minutes outside of city limits on scenic country backroads lies our Amish and Mennonite neighbors. Encompassed with endless farmland, horse-and-buggies, and plenty of farm stands with fresh, inexpensive produce, homemade treats, furnishings, knickknacks, and antiques. Take your own horse-and-buggy ride, eat a Whoopie Pie, chow down at Shady Maple Smorgasbord, and be engulfed by the Amish lifestyle and culture just a few minutes out of town!

Lancaster is also a big promoter of the local arts. With the historic Fulton Theatre in the center of the city, the American Music Theatre, the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra, and Sight & Sound Theatre, Lancaster holds several venues featuring all genres of performances. The Lancaster Arts Hotel (which happens to be within sight of The Drogaris Companies Headquarters) is Lancaster’s first boutique hotel for the arts. Originally a tobacco warehouse, the hotel now houses 63 guest rooms, an organic restaurant, and an on-site art gallery.

But wait, there’s more!

Lancaster City has a highly popular arts extravaganza, First Friday, every month and it is something to be a part of!
